Overview of River Edge House at 33 East End Avenue

33 East End Avenue, known as River Edge House, is a distinguished 12-story cooperative building located on the south blockfront of 81st Street between East End Avenue and the East River Drive. Built in 1941 and converted to a cooperative in 1972, the red-brick structure houses 75 apartments and features a side-street entrance with a polished dark green granite surround, a canopy, and sidewalk landscaping. The building’s façade showcases rusticated masonry on the first floor and simple white reveals around the windows, adding understated elegance. Many units feature balconies with expansive views of the East River, offering residents a serene urban retreat.

Designed by architect William J. Hohauser, River Edge House was noted by architectural historians Robert A. M. Stern, Thomas Mellins, and David Fishman in their book New York 1960 as a pivotal project that initiated the reconstruction of lower East End Avenue. Its location provides convenient access to the southbound entrance of the FDR Drive at 79th Street, just two blocks away, and Carl Schurz Park, a popular neighborhood amenity, three blocks to the north.

The building offers full-service living with a 24-hour doorman, live-in superintendent, and porter. Amenities include a gym, laundry room, and storage facilities, ensuring both convenience and comfort. River Edge House is pet-friendly and permits pied-à-terre ownership, catering to a variety of lifestyle needs while providing a sophisticated and welcoming environment.

Carter’s Review

"This red-brick, 12-story apartment building was erected in 1941 and has a side-street entrance with a canopy and polished dark green granite entrance surround and sidewalk landscaping.

Sales History

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
