Most of the Upper East Side side-streets between Fifth and Park Avenues are lined with elegant townhouses and handsome apartment buildings but there are a couple of early, mid-block apartment buildings that are notably old and have fire-escapes. This is one of them and another, more attractive one is on 77th Street.

This 7-story building was erected in 1910 and was converted to a cooperative in 1975. It has 36 apartments.

It is unusual in that its west corner is rounded and its fire-escapes have solid metal panels, painted brown to coordinate with its pale orange brick fa??ade above its two-story brownstone rusticated base.

The building has some nice architectural detailing, arched windows on the 5th and 6th floors, a five-step-up entrance stoop and discrete air-conditioners. It has no doorman, no garage, no roof deck, no sidewalk landscaping, no health club but it is on a lovely block and directly across from the marquee entrance to Daniel, one of the city's finest and most celebrated restaurants that is inside a Park Avenue apartment building.

It has a prime Upper East Side location as it is within walking distance of some exclusive private clubs and the Plaza Office District as well as the fashionable boutiques of Madison Avenue and Central Park is nearby. Subway stations are a few blocks away and there is cross-town bus service on 65th Street and 57th Street.
