121 West 80th Street is a historic townhouse co-op built in 1893 and designed by Neville and Bagge. It is one of eleven Renaissance and Romanesque Revival rowhouses with Northern Renaissance elements on the north side of the block, a landmarked stretch between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues near the Museum of Natural History.
The four story building has 14 residences and a self managed co-op structure. Apartments are generally organized as floor through homes with flexible one and two bedroom layouts, and many retain pre war details such as lofty ceilings, original moldings, wood floors, exposed lintels, fireplaces, and skylights. Wood burning fireplaces recur in the residences, while upper floor homes receive additional light from oversized windows and operable skylights.
Outdoor space is an important part of the building's range: garden level residences open to landscaped private gardens, including one of approximately 500 square feet, while other apartments face neighboring townhouses and their gardens. Interiors also accommodate contemporary renovations, with open kitchens, generous concealed storage, updated bathrooms, through wall air conditioning, and in-unit washer dryers permitted in addition to the building's laundry facilities.
The co-op has low monthly carrying charges, basement storage, bike storage, and central laundry. Cats are permitted with board approval, while dogs are not. Theodore Roosevelt Park and the Museum of Natural History are steps away, and Central Park is about one block north.
