Review of 160 West 71st Street by Carter Horsley

This handsome, 19-story apartment building at 160 West 71st Street on the southeast corner at Broadway is directly across the street from the fabulous Dorilton apartment building, one of the grandest architectural confections in the city.

For many years, it was known as the Almanac Hotel and was frequently used by Babe Ruth. It is now known as the South Pierre.

This building was erected in 1923 by the George Dose Engineering Corporation of which Joseph R. Altieri was president.  It is now owned by the Brodsky Organization.

The architect was Maynicke & Franke.

It has 303 rental apartments.

Bottom Line

A very elegant, pre-war rental apartment building near the epicenter of the Upper West Side with fine public transportation and walking distance to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
