For many years it operated as the Almanac Hotel, and its original plan included a 19th floor dining room accommodating 100 people. Completed in 1923 by the George Dose Engineering Corporation, it was designed by Maynicke & Franke and is now owned by the Brodsky Organization.
The building rises above a two story limestone base, with a broad entrance marquee and four setbacks shaping its Broadway and side street elevations. Detailed window surrounds and urns along the setback parapets provide much of the exterior ornament. The neighboring Coronado follows a similar massing and palette, while the elaborate Dorilton stands directly across Broadway.

Several high floor homes have city and architectural views, while some pre-war interiors retain beamed ceilings and parquet or hardwood floors.
