Carter’s Review

"This handsome, 15-story building at 161 West 75th Street was designed by Rosario Candela, the famous architect of luxury pre-war apartment buildings in the city, and it is typical of his style with a one-story limestone base, limestone quoins, some decorative balconies, a bandcourse and a nice cornice.

It was completed in 1925 and has about 130 co-operative apartments and three elevator banks. Apartments have windowed kitchens and baths. The second floor windows have stone surrounds."

Broker & Buyer Comments

This "gracious" 1928 Candela-designed landmark on the Upper West Side offers "old-world charm" with its "meticulously maintained" lobby and "white-glove" 24-hour doorman service. While "light on amenities," the building compensates with "massive closets" and a "financially sound" operation ("no flip tax!"). The "remarkably flexible" board makes renovations "a breeze," while the "prime" location puts you steps from Central Park, Lincoln Center and "foodie heaven" (Zabar's, Citarella). "Traditional" features like through-wall AC restrictions maintain the building's architectural integrity, while the "reasonable" 25% down requirement makes it more accessible than typical UWS co-ops.
