Overview of 18 East 84th Street

18 East 84th Street is a six story, 25 apartment cooperative housed in a landmarked Georgian mansion designed by Clinton and Russell in 1890. Its interiors are attributed to Ogden Codman Jr., who later coauthored The Decoration of Houses with Edith Wharton. The building retains the proportions and detailing of its townhouse era, including a grand lobby staircase with wrought iron railings and only two apartments per floor.

At Carnegie Hill's Fifth Avenue edge, the building is less than a block from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and about half a block from Central Park. Apartments include one and two bedroom layouts, with high ceilings that generally reach 10 feet or more, oversized windows, original moldings and parquet or herringbone floors. Wood burning fireplaces recur among the residences, while the apartment mix also includes homes with balconies and private garden space.

The cooperative has a part time attended lobby, a live in resident manager, central laundry, storage, and a doorman. Pets and pied à terre ownership are permitted, and financing of up to 60 percent is allowed. The building has no underlying mortgage.

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
