Overview of 21 East 96th Street

21 East 96th Street is an 11 story Carnegie Hill condominium completed in 2005, with a neo Georgian façade by Barry Rice and H. Thomas O'Hara. Red brick, white window trim, a limestone base with arched windows, stringcourses, and upper setbacks give the building a carefully modulated profile, while the rooftop watertank enclosure repeats the base's arched motif. Stewart Boesky and Jamison Weiner were the developers.

The building is organized around large full floor residences, with apartments commonly reached through private entry galleries and generally featuring ceilings of about 10 feet, oversized windows, central air conditioning, and in unit laundry. A duplex residence extends the full floor concept over two levels, separating its principal entertaining spaces from private rooms above. The building also has a rooftop terrace, resident storage, bicycle and pram storage, a health club, and a separate service entrance.

A 24 hour attended lobby, concierge, and full time doorman serve the condominium, whose marble and limestone lobby includes herringbone flooring, a Doric column, and bronze grillwork beneath a vaulted ceiling. Central Park is less than a block away at Fifth Avenue, with the Jacqueline Onassis Reservoir, the North Meadow, and the East 96th Street Playground nearby; Museum Mile begins along Fifth Avenue. The 4 and 6 trains stop at 96th Street and Lexington Avenue, and cross town bus service runs at the intersection.
