The Hellmuth Building is an eight story Chelsea co-op at 154 West 18th Street, built in 1906 as a printing and ink factory and converted to 28 residential lofts in 1988. Designed by Adolph Schoeller for Charles Hellmuth, the Art Nouveau building retains the broad proportions and industrial character of its original use, including barrel vaulted ceilings, original columns, hardwood floors, and oversized windows.

Apartments are organized around open, adaptable loft plans rather than standardized room layouts. Ceilings generally range from roughly 11 to 14 feet, and residences include one bedroom homes with dens or libraries as well as larger lofts that can be configured for additional bedrooms. Oversized windows bring north, south, or west light, with some homes offering open city views; flexible partitions, pocket doors, and wide entertaining areas recur across the apartments.

The building has an on-site super, video intercom, resident storage, and a bike room, and it is pet friendly. Private basement storage is offered to residents for an additional fee. The co-op also permits in-unit washers and dryers, reflected in several renovated lofts, while apartment renovations range from restorations emphasizing original architectural details to highly customized contemporary interiors.

On West 18th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, the building is close to the High Line, Chelsea Market, Union Square, Madison Square Park, the Flatiron District, the Meatpacking District, and the Whitney Museum. The surrounding blocks combine galleries, restaurants, specialty food shops, and retail along with access to multiple subway lines.
