Ray Harlem is a 21-story residential building located at 2033 Fifth Avenue at the intersection of 125th Street in Harlem. Designed by award-winning architect Frida Escobedo in collaboration with Handel Architects, the building houses 222 studio to two-bedroom apartments above 27,000 square feet of space dedicated to the National Black Theatre (NBT). Founded in 1968, NBT is the nation's oldest Black theater owned and operated by a Black woman, and its state-of-the-art facilities, designed by Marvel Architects, include a 250-seat immersive technology performance space, a 99-seat flexible studio theater, rehearsal rooms, offices, classrooms, and a set building shop supporting workforce development in theatrical trades.
All apartments feature blonde oak floors, quartz countertops, oversized windows designed to capture views of lower Manhattan, Nest smart thermostats, and in-unit washers and dryers. The building is pet friendly and includes a custom resident app. Residents pay a $75 monthly amenities fee, with additional charges of $50 per month for pets and $25 per month for bike storage. Water and gas are included in rent, while residents cover electricity, cable, and internet separately.
The building offers a 24 hour attended lobby, fitness and yoga studios, a coworking lounge with private workspace, and a library curated by Phaidon Press. Multiple outdoor spaces include a fifth floor park terrace, a courtyard, and a 22nd floor rooftop terrace with grilling stations and a rooftop lounge. Additional amenities include a communal kitchen, a living room, and a Ray x Tulu smart vending machine. The building hosts regular arts and culture events encouraging resident engagement.
Ray Harlem sits one block north of Marcus Garvey Park with access to the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 subway lines, as well as the Metro-North 125th Street station serving the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines. The neighborhood offers proximity to 125th Street retail, Whole Foods, and local restaurants including Sylvia's and Harlem Shake. The partnership between Ray and NBT represents a redevelopment of the site that has been NBT's home since its founding.
