The eight residence building occupies a quiet, tree lined block between Avenues C and D, where the planted frontage echoes the community gardens and Greek Revival townhouses nearby.
Developed by Seth Tapper and designed by Derek Sanders of CAN Resources, with WSE Design Partnership Architects as architects of record, the 2007 building combines a glass and metal entrance with large steel casement windows that recall pre war industrial architecture. It steps back at the fifth floor, while the upper three floors form a penthouse residence. The planters, maintained as a vertical garden, are the project’s defining architectural element.
Residences are loft like, with ceiling heights generally reaching 12 feet or more, floor to ceiling windows, private keyed entries, radiant heating, zoned cooling, and in unit laundry in many homes. Outdoor space ranges from balconies and terraces to private gardens, while layouts include duplexes and other multilevel homes; the penthouse spans 6,665 square feet with 1,500 square feet of outdoor space. Several apartments face the Green Oasis Community Garden, a 17,787 square foot permanent garden at the rear of the building.
The building has doorman and concierge service, a garage with valet parking, a rooftop terrace, garden and outdoor entertainment areas, terraces and balconies, and laundry facilities. Pets are allowed. Flowerbox is close to the East Village’s restaurants, parks, and community gardens, with its mid block setting giving the residences a distinctly planted outlook within Alphabet City.
