Carter's Review

This handsome, 8-story, mid-block building at 24 West 22nd Street between Broadway and Park Avenue South is very near Madison Square Park was erected in 1905 and has only 6 condominium apartments and three-floors of commercial space.

The building is convenient to public transit and many restaurants and boutiques such as Eataly and Lego and only half a block from the famous Flatiron Building.

Bottom Line

One of the more attractive blocks around Madison Square Park, this very distinctive, red-brick building is across the street from the very good-looking bases of two very prominent high-rise apartment towers on West 23rd Street.

Description

The building has a very dramatic base that is mostly white with some sharply angled windows, all enclosed in a decorative limestone frame.

The third story has a center pediment lintel and floors 4 through 6 have flared lintels over multi-paned windows.  The 7th floor has single-pane windows.

The 8th floor has inset windows between limestone piers behind a cast-iron balcony.

The building has a large, protruding cornice.

Amenities

The building has a virtual doorman, an elevator and is pet-friendly.

Apartments

The apartments have 14-foot-high ceilings ribbed with vaults.

The third floor apartment is a two-bedroom unit that has a 31-foot-long living room that opens onto a 15-foot-long open kitchen with an island and a 15-foot-long office/den.

The fourth floor apartment gas a 35-foot-long living/dining area and a 15-foot-long, open kitchen with a breakfast bar and an island, an 11-foot-long study and an master bedroom.

The sixth floor apartment is a two-bedroom unit with a 48-foot-long living/dining room that opens in one direction on an open kitchen with two islands and a 9-foot-long home office and in the other to a 23-foot-wide open space.
