The Oakman is a 15 story condominium building at 160 First Street in Jersey City, completed in 2016 by The Schuster Group. Designed by Fogarty Finger, the 159 unit building is named after John Oakman, who designed the 1907 H & M Powerhouse that opened rail access to Manhattan and anchors the Powerhouse Arts District. The building is located three blocks from the Grove Street PATH station.
The architecture features a skylit entrance canopy in wood and blackened steel, leading to a 22 foot tall lobby with walnut cladding and concrete wall panels accented in blackened steel. The façade is framed in thin white panels that divide it into two story segments, with large multi paned windows separated by grey bricks laid in rusticated fashion.
Amenities include an outdoor rooftop swimming pool, rooftop entertainment rooms with fireplace and lounge with kitchen, a residents' lounge, library and business center, a skylit children's playroom, fitness center, complimentary coffee and tea stand, and a 24 hour concierge. The building also offers on-site parking with electric vehicle charging stations, bicycle storage, cold storage, and an art gallery on every floor. The building is pet friendly.
Apartments feature 9 foot high ceilings, individual room control for heat and air conditioning, washer and dryer hookups, and wide plank brushed white oak floors. Kitchens are outfitted with Italian Pedini cabinetry and appliances from Bosch, Miele, and Bertazzoni.
