Hampton House, 404 East 79th Street: Review and Ratings
at The Southeast corner of First Avenue View Full Building Profile
Erected as a condominium in 1985, this 31-story tower has 208 apartments of which 79 are studios and 100 are one-bedroom units.
Most apartments have balconies and building has a two-story-high lobby and is set back fairly far in a plaza, which has no landscaping, on the cross street. The building has a doorman, a concierge, a garage, and a health club with pool. The slab tower is set back considerably from the cross street on which it has only a small frontage for its double-height, curved skylit entrance, whose form is repeated at the top of the building on a larger scale for the health club, whose illumination at night is highly visible.
This is a very lively section of the Upper East Side with many restaurants nearby as well as charity thrift stores. There is good cross-town bus service, but the closest subway is at 77th Street and Lexington Avenue at Lenox Hill Hospital. A downtown entrance to the FDR drive is not far away.
