One Sutton Place North is a 41 story black glass rental tower in Lenox Hill, designed by Davis Brody Bond for developer Sheldon H. Solow and completed in 2003. The 234 apartment slab is set perpendicular to the Queensboro Bridge to maximize East River views.
Despite its name, One Sutton Place North uses the street address 420 East 61st Street and occupies a mid-block site between East 60th and East 61st Streets, just west of York Avenue. The Sutton Area Community objected to extending the Sutton Place label north of its traditional endpoint at East 59th Street, turning the building’s name into a neighborhood preservation dispute when it opened.
Apartments commonly have East River views, in-unit washer/dryers, and central air conditioning, while a full time doorman and concierge staff the building. The building also has a pool, fitness center, landscaped courtyard and garden, outdoor entertainment space, library, valet service, and a full service garage with on-site parking; pets are permitted.
