Carter Horsley
Review of 200 West End Avenue by Carter Horsley

200 West End Avenue is an attractive, 27-story residential condominium building on the southeast corner at 70th Street.

It was developed by Clarett Capital LLC., a joint venture between the Clarett Group, Prudential Real Estate Investors and ING/Clarion.

It has 191 apartments and was completed in 2008.

It was designed by Costas Kondylis, who designed many of the buildings along Riverside Boulevard for Donald Trump and Extell Development.

Bottom Line

This clean-cut but boxy apartment tower is across the avenue from P.S. 199, the handsome school designed in 1963 by Edward Durrell Stone, and it is also just to the north of the very large Lincoln Towers residential complex of slab buildings.  It is also not far from the 72nd Street express subway station and Riverside Park.

Description

The building’s base is mostly framed with white stone while its top two floors and all of the tower, which has a setback, are all glass.

The building has a lobby designed by Celerie Kemble and a wine tasting room by Wine Enthusiast.

Amenities

The building has a doorman, a live-in superintendent, a children’s playroom with an outdoor area designed by Peter Sis, a health club, valet parking, a residents’ lounge, bicycle storage, and personal storage.

Apartments

Apartments have Brazilian Cabruva flooring.

Kitchens have opaque glass and white-oak cabinetry with black granite countertops with Bianco Lasa marble backsplashes, Viking appliances, and a Waterworks sink.

Bathrooms have marble floors with mosaic tile and a Bianco Verde marble deep soaking tub and walnut vanities.

Apartment 10G is a three-bedroom unit that has a foyer that leads to a large living room next to a dining area and an enclosed kitchen.
