Renderings of LIC's Star Tower, night and day; Via JLS Designs
Nearly ten years in the making, news broke of the development for the 27-17 42nd Road site in Long Island City, when Roe Corporation filed construction plans for the project back in 2007. The site was cleared of a five-story commercial building, making way for a proposed L-shaped high-rise with 400 hotel rooms in tow. But despite launching sales, Roe never delivered —blaming the sudden recession for abandoning plans. The site was sold to Eastern Star for $44 million in 2014, who outlined a 27-story, 182-unit residential tower to rise on the Queens Plaza lot. We reported of the initial construction, late July of last year, but since, newsfeeds have been quiet about any progress. Until last week, that is.
The Real Deal reported last Friday that Eastern Star has set a pricey sellout rate for the luxury tower sporting their name. Star Tower, as it is now known, is anticipated to garner a $253.3 million sellout rate —Long Island City’s second most expensive sellout rate recorded. The article also notes that Eastern Star is "financing the build with $60 million in loans from Cathay Bank."

It also happens that a pair of renderings of the shimmery tower appeared on the website of JLS Designs’ mixed-use portfolio. Though we know these weren’t available last we checked on the project, it isn’t altogether clear when the architects added these renderings to their design dock. Nevertheless, the renderings show two equally stunning renditions of the building: One depicts a glassy powder-blue Star Tower, shining in the gleam of daylight; the other, shows Star Tower glowing from within against a background of the midnight sky.

We’ve also caught whiff that CityLift Customized Parking Solutions will partner with Developer DNA to complete the tower with a 5-level, 2,000-square-foot parking lot. The fully automated parking lot will have spaces for 36 cars and aims to reduce construction costs and maximize basement space. 

Completion, as of now, is slated for the fourth quarter of 2017, and we can already see from some shots taken last month that the tower has begun installing some of its glassy exterior. More details pending.
