As CityRealty's recent market report shows, traditionally inspired Upper East Side buildings put on an impressive showing in the second quarter of 2022. That streak continued last week with two Upper East Side listings tying for the week's top sale price of $17,000,000. One of the winners was #PH14 at the Robert A.M. Stern-designed 150 East 78th Street. Like all penthouses in the building, the apartment features private elevator access, expansive proportions, and interiors by Robert Couturier; it also has two private terraces. This building has put on an impressive showing since sales launched, and the one listing remaining on the market is a duplex penthouse listed for $16,950,000.
Robert A.M. Stern Architects' designs pay respectful tribute to historic architecture, and true prewar buildings remain in high demand: Eleven blocks south, #A at the Rosario Candela-designed 2 East 67th Street tied for the top spot. Sellers Averell Harriman Mortimer, asset manager and a great-grandson of railroad magnate E.H. Harriman, and his wife Jean "Gigi" Newhard Mortimer, founder and CEO of blue light blocking company EyeJust, sold their apartment following their purchase of a Palm Beach home last year (h/t The Real Deal). Buyer Michael Charles Dearing is the founder of venture capital firm Harrison Metal.
