Williamsburg is stepping up its architectural game, with its new developments evolving from Fedders/ metal and glass box eyesores to something more…enduring. One of the most stimulating condo buildings to surface is under construction at 150 North 12th Street, at the corner of Berry Street. Developed by Greenpoint-based Elrob Realty with Michael Muroff as the architect, the 7-story building is covered in a delicious red brick and metal façade that evokes an industrial loft building from the early 20th century,
A curved corner and strong vertical piers define the exterior. Their size and articulation of the brick make it appear as if this is some old load-bearing structure built to support teems of factory workers and their raucous, heavy equipment. Black metal spandrels separate the floors and large operable sash windows sit in between. A crenellated cornice tops the building, perfect for tossing water balloons err…expired artisan cheeses at passersby in McCarren Park.

The building will hold 54 high-end rentals with each floor holding just six to nine units. On lower levels, there will be three duplex maisonette units with private entrances and backyards. No word on pricing but the apartments should come online by year’s end. Per our listings, Williamsburg studios currently ask a median of $2,833/mo, one-beds for $2,958/mo, and two-beds for $3,352/mo.

Amenities are to include a roof deck, a coffee shop, a recreation space, bike storage and parking for 21 vehicles. The William Vale, Wythe, and Williamsburg hotels are nearby and the building is within walking distance to the waterfront. The G train station at Nassau Street is several blocks north and the L train at Bedford is several blocks south.
