In general, CityRealty waits until a few days into the new month before presenting a rundown of recently listed apartments linked to celebrity owners past and present. But as May 2023 winds down, a number of apartments throughout Manhattan were bought and sold by luminaries in business, entertainment, and food.

Anna Netrebko — Sold for $6,000,000

Shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Metropolitan Opera cut ties with celebrated but controversial soprano Anna Netrebko after she issued statements critical of the war but did not repudiate her previous support for Vladimir Putin. At the time, Peter Gelb, the Metropolitan Opera's general manager, told The New York Times that "it's hard to imagine a scenario in which she will return to the Met." She has performed all over Europe since then, and her recent sale of an Upper West Side condominium near Lincoln Center appears as a further demonstration that her time in New York, if not the United States, is over.

Regarded by some as "the father of the modern analyst industry," entrepreneur Gideon Gartner was at the helm of consulting firm Gartner Group, broker-dealer Soundview Technologies, and consulting firm Giga Information Group. He was also well known for his love of music, having been a supporter of the Metropolitan Opera, the National Jazz Museum of Harlem, and Carnegie Hill, the latter of which is a stone's throw from his longtime Manhattan penthouse at Metropolitan Tower. Following his death in December 2020, public records indicate that his estate has sold the condo on what is now known as Billionaires' Row.

Luxury executive Frederic Cumenal's extensive resume includes 15 years, a short stint as CEO of Tiffany & Co., and appointments to the board of Blue Nile and Lugano Diamonds. His tastes in real estate were more understated but no less impressive: Public records list him as the seller of a spacious apartment at the top of a highly exclusive Greenwich Village condo conversion with only three units.
