Earlier this month, a new study found that home renovation media like HGTV and Better Homes and Gardens have caused homeowners to feel self-conscious about their decor and led to a "shift toward standardization," as study author Annetta Grant described the shift toward neutral paint colors and "safe" design choices. It's true that sellers are advised to present a pleasing if somewhat blank slate so prospective buyers can better imagine their own stamp on a space; however, the study found that even homeowners with no plans to sell are afraid of making design decisions that will make their homes less appealing to buyers in the distant future.

From July 12-18, 2023, a total of 267 sales listings throughout New York experienced price reductions. A selection of notable listings may be seen below -- some have virtually staged photos, while others present brightly painted walls, rooms in need of renovation, or unusual art and furniture on full display. Please be advised that all figures quoted reflect cumulative price cuts as opposed to the most recent reductions.
