Randolph House is a 104 unit rental building at 135 East 50th Street in Midtown East, completed in 1924 and rising 10 stories. Its light brown brick façade has a rusticated limestone base, stone window surrounds on the second and third floors, a band course above the eighth floor, and arched top floor windows beneath a small cornice.
Apartments retain a consistent pre-war vocabulary of high beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, moldings, and generous entry foyers. Windowed kitchens and ample closets recur, while several homes have oversized windows and southern exposures; layouts range from studios to large one bedroom residences, including configurations with home office space.
The building has a renovated attended lobby with a part time doorman, along with a laundry room, mail room, and live-in superintendent. Pets are permitted.
Randolph House also has a documented history of serious incidents. In 1970, New York State Supreme Court issued an injunction against landlord Brause Realty over a program of tenant harassment, and a 1988 ground floor office fire spread vertically through the building, causing several deaths and injuring 17 people. The mid-block address is close to the Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue, with a Citi Bike station one block away.
