The Mondrian at 250 East 54th Street is a distinctive 43-story luxury condominium tower designed by Fox & Fowle Architects. Originally named Le Grand Palais, the 1992 building features a striking aluminum and glass curtain wall with red bands every five floors, complemented by bright white and dark blue façades. The tower's design combines clean rectilinearity with a curved corner, sitting atop a three-story base that fills the site.
Developed by Charles B. Benenson and the Tisch brothers (Laurence and Preston), the building initially faced challenges, leading to its sale in 1993 to a Western European investor group for $50 million. The ground and second-floor levels feature decorative panels inspired by the building's namesake, Dutch modernist painter Piet Mondrian.
The 179-unit condominium offers residents a comprehensive suite of amenities including 24-hour doorman service, concierge, on-site building manager, and a furnished wrap-around terrace. A distinctive feature is direct lobby access to an Equinox health club. Located in Midtown East, the building provides convenient access to multiple subway lines (E, M, 6, N, Q, R, and W) and is surrounded by notable dining, shopping, and entertainment venues.
