In late May 2025, the Empire State Development board of directors unanimously voted to approve the residential conversion of the office building at 5 Times Square. The project will yield as many as 1,250 new housing units, with a quarter set aside as affordable. Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2025, with the first phase estimated for completion in 2027.

Designed by Gensler, the ambitious project taps into Midtown's growing trend of office-to-residential conversions, fueled by tax incentives requiring affordable housing.
