Carter's Review
This very handsome, 11-story, beige-brick, apartment building was erected in 1928. It was converted to a cooperative in 1984 and has 64 large apartments.
It was designed by George F. Pelham.
It has a one-story painted limestone base, a canopied, one-step-up entrance, a doorman, a large and very impressive lobby, sidewalk landscaping and it permits protruding air-conditioners.
It is similar in size and style to the apartment building directly across the street at 133 East 64th Street, which has finer detailing and very impressive retail spaces. Together, however, both buildings compliment one another well and add considerable elegance to this rather wild and interesting stretch along Lexington Avenue that has restaurants, cosmetics stores, coffee shops and some low-rise buildings that provide interesting vistas of the luxury apartment towers nearby on Third Avenue.
The 64th Street side-street is one of the nicest in this area and there are many clubs, religious institutions and the like in the vicinity. Bloomingdale's is four blocks to the south so there is considerable traffic on Lexington Avenue.
There is good public transportation in the area.
