101 West End Avenue Location Map

Overview of 101 West End Avenue

101 West End Avenue is a 33 story, twin tower rental completed in 2000 with 503 apartments. It occupies the former site of a New York Times printing plant built in 1959. Developed by Tishman Speyer Properties and designed by Schuman Lichtenstein Claman & Efron, the light orange brick building draws on the twin tower Art Deco silhouettes of Central Park West. Its entrance has a two story red granite surround, while the circular lobby has a silver leaf ceiling.

Layouts range from studios to five bedroom homes. Many apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows, central air and abundant closets; entry foyers and enclosed kitchens also recur, along with balconies and terraces. Apartment 15H is organized around a 37 foot wide living room, with terraces wrapping three sides of the residence.

Staffing includes a full time doorman, concierge and live-in superintendent. The EOS Club includes a 5,000 square foot fitness center, basketball court and resident programming, while other shared spaces include a rooftop terrace with grills, lounge, conference rooms, children’s playroom and spa or therapy room. The building also has a full service garage, valet parking, resident storage, a bike room and laundry facilities, and pets are permitted.

The building is between West 64th and West 65th Streets and faces the small park at Thelonious Monk Circle. Riverside Park lies to the west, while Lincoln Center is several blocks east. The 1 train stops at 66th Street Lincoln Center on Broadway.

Broker & Resident Comments

This "luxury" high-rise on West End Avenue offers "spacious layouts" with "corner windows" and "morning sunlight," though recent ownership changes have brought "extensive renovations" that have "dramatically impacted" the resident experience. The building features a "decent gym" and "friendly doormen," but is currently challenged by "persistent elevator issues" and "ongoing construction noise." While some units boast "newly renovated interiors," common areas are "awaiting updates" and amenities are "limited." Management's "ambitious renovation plans" have created a "transitional period" that has left some residents seeking alternatives, though the building maintains its "prime Upper West Side location."
