Carter's Review

This 15-story apartment building at 300 West 108th Street was erected in 1924 and designed by Rosario Candela, the most famous architect of luxury pre-war apartment buildings in the city.  It was erected by the Broadway & 108th Street Corporation, of which Vito Cerabone was president and Michael A. Campagna was secretary.

It was known as the Charlton and was converted to a co-operative in 1982.

It has 75 apartments.

Bottom Line

An elegant pre-war apartment building designed by Rosario Candela that is convenient to Riverside Park and public transportation.

Description

The beige-brick building has a two-story stone base and a very handsome entrance surround on the side-street and stores on the avenue frontage.

There are window surrounds on the third floor and the top two floors.  There are decorative balconies in the center of the 8th floor on the two façades and a bandcourse with center and end balconies on the 14th floor.

The building, which has an attractive cornice, has handsome pairs of masonry quoins at its corners.

It permits protruding air-conditioners.

Amenities

The building has a doorman, a live-in superintendent, a bicycle room, storage and a laundry and is pet-friendly.

Apartment 8C is a two-bedroom unit with a long entry foyer that leads past a 23-foot-long dining room next to a pass-through 16-foot-long kitchen to a 23-foot-long living room.

Apartment 7A is a three-bedroom unit with an 8-foot-wide entry foyer that leads in one direction to a 22-foot-long living room and in the other to a 16-foot-long dining room next to a 12-foot-long kitchen.

Apartment 3A is a two-bedroom unit with an 8-foot-wide entry foyer that leads in one direction to a 21-foot-long living room and in the other to a 16-foot-long dining room next to a 16-foot-long storage room and a 19-foot-long pass-through kitchen next to a 14-foot-long office.

Apartment 15E is a one-bedroom unit with a 17-foot-long living room and a 14-foot-long kitchen.
