Overview of The Island House at 575 Main Street

The Island House is a post-war condop building in the Upper East Side's Roosevelt Island neighborhood finished in 1975. Situated at 575 Main Street, between W Road and River Road, the building contains 400 units and rises 19 stories. The elevatored building's amenities include  full time doorman, central/multi-floor laundry rooms, bike room, access to fitness center, pool, community room, playrooms, newly renovated hallways, cable ready, common courtyard, high-speed internet and package room. Pied-a-terres and co-purchasing are welcomed.

Midtown Manhattan is moments away via the F train, tram, or ferry. But closer to home, Roosevelt Island is an attractive alternative to city living because of the abundance of community amenities and outdoor space, such as: parks, green space, gardens and community gardens, running and biking paths, swimming pools, baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, and playgrounds to name a few.

Roosevelt Island is committed to green living, and in addition to weekly composting drop-off, one is able to even forage some plants and herbs on the island, and there is a membership run community garden. Other parks include: Southpoint Park and Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park in the south and Lighthouse Park at the north end of the island.

Carter’s Review

"This 19-story building at 575 Main Street on Roosevelt Island was erected in 1975 and has 400 condop apartments.  It was designed by Johansen & Bhavani, which was also chosen to design the 375-unit Rivercross nearby at 531 Main Street when the original architect withdrew.  The two large buildings were among the first major residential buildings erected on Roosevelt Island.

It and Rivercross are U-shaped buildings that step down to the East River.  This building is across the river from Manhattan."
