A former industrial building at the southern edge of SoHo, 533 Canal Street was completed in 1911 and is also known as 477 Washington Street. The eight story pre-war co-op contains eight full floor apartments, with a pale orange brick façade, slightly arched top floor windows, and a bandcourse above the third floor. Its lofts are oriented toward the Hudson River, Canal Park, and the western skyline, with many homes having broad river views, high ceilings, and generous proportions.
The building's full floor scale supports lofts of roughly 4,200 to 5,000 square feet, as well as duplex layouts with living areas separated from bedrooms by level. Its location places it between Washington and Greenwich streets, near the Manhattan entrance to the Holland Tunnel and at the meeting point of SoHo, Hudson Square, and Tribeca. The building's industrial character and river facing lofts have drawn a notable group of residents, including Michael Stipe, Kirsten Dunst, Gus Van Sant, and Casey Affleck.
