Review of 56 Walker Street by Carter Horsley

This small but very choice TriBeCa cast-iron building was erected in 1866 for Joseph Bayley and converted for residential use in 2015 by Six Sigma NYC, which is headed by Jason Lee and Johnny Wan.  Six Sigma brought the building for $18 million in 2014.  Its conversion was planned in 2008 but a recession stymied that effort.  It has six stories and four condominium apartments.

Carlyle Designs did the interior design.

The building is one block below West Houston Street.

Bottom Line

Sell your Renoirs and get some Silver Wave marble countertops and master bath walls like the ones in this very, very nice cast-iron building in TriBeCa that also has motorized cabinets. We’re talking real meaningful amenities here – handles on kitchen cabinets and drawers have touch sensors that activate motors and rain sensors close windows - just when you thought luxury was a bit of a bore.

Description

The building has arched windows framed by pilasters and a large cornice.  The ground floor is outline in black with two center columns and two end pilasters beneath a balustrade on the second floor.

The building has ground-floor and cellar retail space.

Amenities

The building allows pets and has a swimming pool, a 24-hour virtual doorman, part-time lobby attendant, wine cellar, a private theater, a gym, cold storage, video security and storage.

Apartments

Each loft has 10-14-foot-high ceilings, central air conditioning, white oak hardwood floors, and washers and dryers.

They also have mechanized windows and shades controlled by iPad Minis.

Kitchens have Sub-zero refrigerators, Viking 6-burner stoves, Bosch dishwashers, and Caesarstone countertops.

Baths have radiant floors and Toto Neorest commodes.

Unit 2 is a floor-through, 3-bedroom unit with 2,670 square feet with a Statuario marble fireplace, a kitchen with Silver Wave marble countertop and Dada white lacquer cabinetry and appliances by Gaggenau.  The master bathroom has Silver Wave marble walls and free-standing tub.

Unit 3 is a three-bedroom duplex unit with 2,670 square feet with a large living room adjacent to a large dining room and an open kitchen with a large island.
