8 Thomas Street, erected in 1875 by architect Jarvis Morgan Slade, is a High Victorian Gothic-style landmark building located in Tribeca between Broadway and Church Street. Originally built for soap manufacturer David S. Brown, the five-story structure was designated an individual city landmark in 1978 and later converted to condominiums in 2007 by Ashnu International Corporation.
The building's distinctive architecture features a cast-iron façade with elaborate details including marble Ionic columns, large arched windows, and rusticated piers on the lower floors. The second and third floors showcase three large arched windows each, while the fourth floor contains six smaller windows with similar treatments. A bracketed cornice is topped by a peaked roof with a large arched window surrounded by colored stones.
Now configured as a boutique condominium with four luxury units, the building includes a penthouse duplex with roof terrace and various multi-level residences. Each apartment features generous proportions and maintains many original architectural elements while incorporating modern finishes and amenities.
The building offers contemporary conveniences including a virtual doorman system, elevator, locked package closet, and private storage rooms for each unit. Its location in the heart of Tribeca provides easy access to notable restaurants like The Odeon and Edward's, as well as convenient proximity to Whole Foods and various transit options.
