865 United Nations Plaza is a 17-story, 64-unit building completed in 1927 and converted to a condominium in 2007. The boutique building offers amenities like a 24-hour doorman and is conveniently located near various services and transportation options in midtown.
865 United Nations Plaza is a 17 story, 64 unit pre-war condominium at the northwest corner of First Avenue and East 47th Street. Completed in 1927 as an apartment building and converted to condominium ownership in 2007, it was designed by George and Edward Blum. Its eclectic red brick façade is marked by partial white bandcourses, decorative masonry spandrels, irregular quoins and a small arched window near the roofline.
Many apartments retain high or beamed ceilings, generous entry foyers, broad living and dining rooms, windowed kitchens, walk-in storage and wood burning fireplaces. Eastern and corner exposures open toward the United Nations, its gardens and the East River, while some west facing rooms overlook Midtown. Penthouse B extends to a 63 foot wraparound terrace, an uncommon expanse of private outdoor space for the building.
The building has a full time doorman, concierge, live-in superintendent, mail room, central laundry room and bike room. Central air conditioning, a courtyard, garden and outdoor gathering space are also part of the residential program, and pets are permitted.
The United Nations campus is directly across First Avenue, with the East River and FDR Drive just beyond it, while Beekman Place begins two blocks north. Author Truman Capote was a past resident.
