Carter Horsley
Review of 75 Bank Street by Carter Horsley

This handsome, 6-story, Art Deco-style building at 75 Bank Street at Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village was erected in 1938 and is known as Abingdon Court.

It has 87 co-operative apartments.

A November 30, 1930 article in The New York Times reported that its site was one of several acquired in Greenwich Village by Bing & Bing and that its site had been partially occupied by the 7-story Abingdon Hotel.

It was erected by the Abingdon Court Company and designed by Irving Margon, who also designed 965 Fifth Avenue.

It is convenient to the Whitney Museum of American Art and the southern end of the High Line Elevated Park.

It is across from Abingdon Park and the Bleecker Playground and is convenient to public transportation.

It is also known as 2-4 Eighth Avenue, 1-9 Abingdon Square and 419-425 Bleecker Street.

This building is adjacent to the Bank Street School, a four-story building erected in 1905 for Rudolph E. and Gustave Schirmer, sons of G. Schirmer, the founder of the music publishing house, G. Schirmer Inc.

Abingdon Square is a small triangular park named after Willoughby, the Earl of Abingdon, who married Charlotte, one of Sir Peter Warren's daughters.  Warren's estate before the Revolution included a major part of what is now Greenwich Village.
