Carter's Review
This impressive, 14-story apartment building at 185 South 4th Street in the Williamsburgh section of Brooklyn is known as the Continental and was designed as a condominium but opened as a rental.
It was developed by the North Development Group of which Isaac Hager is present. It also developed 20 Bayard Street fronting on McCarren Park in Brooklyn.
The gray-brick apartment tower is setback from the building line and was designed by Karl Fischer. It is notable for having its top two balconies at either side of its front façade angled in different directions like epaulets on the broad shoulders of a beribboned soldier.
The building's blue-gray masonry façades run up the tower while the spaces in between are nicely patterned with silver-colored window frames and mullions. Most of the windows have 5 panes and there are many balconies with thin white railings.
The building has an partially exposed rooftop watertank so the overall effect is of a knight in shining chain-mail with a small helmet.
The building has 46 apartments, a part-time doorman, central air-conditioning, a roofdeck, a gym and is pet-friendly.
The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and dishwasher and a Bosch washer/dryer.
