102 West 80th Street: Review and Ratings

between Columbus Avenue & Amsterdam Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 102 West 80th Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, 8-story, mid-block cooperative apartment building at 102 West 80th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues was erected in 1901 and has 65 apartments.

The building is adjacent to the very handsome Orleans rental apartment building at 100 West 80th Street on the southeast corner of Columbus Avenue that is directly across from the very handsome Warwick Arms cooperative apartment building at 101 West 80th Street.  Both of these buildings were erected about the same time at 102 West 80th Street and they front on Manhattan Square and the rear of the American Museum of Natural History.

A recent renovation restored a handsome missing cornice.

There is good cross-town bus transportation and numerous restaurants and boutiques nearby.

Bottom Line

A central and prime Upper West Side location that is a short walk to the American Museum of Natural History and numerous restaurants and cafes.

The attractive building has many bay windows, a two-story rusticated limestone base and front fire-escapes.

Description

The light grey-brick building has a two-story, rusticated limestone base with oculi windows flanking its canopied entrance.

The building has two rounded bay windows on either side of the building’s central fire-escapes.

Amenities

The building permits cats, a laundry room and has an elevator but no doorman, no garage and no roof deck.
