Carter Horsley
Review of 1111 Park Avenue by Carter Horsley

This pleasant, sedate, 14-story apartment building at 1111 Park Avenue on the southeast corner at 90th Street was completed in 1925 by the Bricken Construction Company and designed by Schwartz & Gross, a team that also erected such other nearby buildings as 1070, 1085, 1165 and 1185 Park Avenue.

The building has 80 apartments and was converted to a co-operative in 1957.

Bottom Line

The building’s large apartments, many up to nine rooms with four bathrooms, are much in demand in this quiet, prime and very attractive Carnegie Hill location that is noted for its churches and schools.

Description

The red-brick building has a nice two-story limestone base with pilasters and handsome but simple geometric designs above the windows.

There is an oval window atop a pediment entrance surround topped with cornucopias for the canopied entrance that is flanked by sidewalk landscaping.

The second and top floors have window surrounds with rounded tops and there is a bandcourse over the second floor and stringcourses above the third, 11th, 12th and top floors.

The building has a nice cornice and limestone quoins above the third floor.

The building permits protruding air-conditioners and has no garage and inconsistent fenestration.

The building has a doorman, a gym and storage. It permits pets.
