La Rochelle is an 1896 rental building at 57 West 75th Street, on the northeast corner of Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side. Designed by Lamb & Rich, the 11 story building has a Renaissance style façade of cream and buff brick with limestone, anchored by a triple arched entrance and banded, fluted columns.
The exterior incorporates rusticated corners, quoins, decorative panels and a substantial cornice, with a related composition along the Columbus Avenue frontage. A two step entrance opens to a double-height lobby with a fireplace and marble staircase; the lobby was originally domed, while later interior work by Costas Kondylis included its colonnaded balcony.
The building contains 91 apartments, with layouts ranging from studios through four bedroom homes and ceilings generally measuring 10 to 11 feet. Fireplaces recur in multiple floor plans, and the plan mix encompasses open and enclosed kitchens as well as formal dining rooms and studies. Several top floor layouts connect to private roof terraces, and many renovated apartments have in-unit laundry.
La Rochelle has a 24 hour doorman, a live-in superintendent, a fitness center, bicycle storage and a shared roof deck, and pets are permitted. Central Park is one avenue block east, while the American Museum of Natural History is roughly two blocks northeast along Central Park West.
