Overview of 2 Gold Street

2 Gold Street is a 51 story rental tower in the Financial District, completed in 2005 by Rockrose Development and now owned by T.F. Cornerstone. Originally planned in 1998 as a corporate office building, the project pivoted to residential after the 2001 terrorist attacks. Designed by Avinash K. Malhotra with interiors by The Rockwell Group, the building initially contained 650 apartments but expanded to 839 units with the addition of a 26 story tower featuring a different color scheme. The $225 million development received $170.3 million in Liberty Bond financing and incorporates the preserved 1832 red brick façade of 211 Pearl Street, originally built for William Colgate of Colgate-Palmolive.

Hurricane Sandy in 2012 severely impacted the building, flooding the lobby with three feet of water and forcing resident relocations. The developers invested approximately $15 million in repairs and installed a 13 foot high aluminum gate with nitrogen fueled gaskets to make the basement watertight. The building's resilience and subsequent recovery demonstrate its commitment to long term viability in a flood prone area near the former Chase Manhattan Bank and AIG towers.

Apartments feature modern pass through kitchens, floor to ceiling windows, and spacious living areas, with many units offering balconies that begin approximately halfway up the tower. Corner units provide double exposure, while higher floor apartments offer city and partial river views, including sightlines to the Freedom Tower. Layouts range from studios with open plans to three bedroom units with king sized bedrooms. The building offers a 24 hour concierge, attended garage, fitness center, and an expansive roof deck with a grass lawn, glass enclosed lap pool, and solarium featuring a gas fireplace and catering kitchen. Pets are permitted.
