215 East 68th Street is a 32 story, 608 apartment rental designed by Emery Roth & Sons and built by the Rudins in 1962. A 2013 refurbishment covered the deteriorating white brick exterior with a terracotta rain screen façade. The complex is organized around a central tower flanked by two 20 story wings.
The new façade, designed by FXFowle with Forst Consulting and Architecture, uses white terracotta panels with gray and black banding. The project received the 2013 Transformation Award from the Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts. Terraces and balconies break up the massing, while extensive sidewalk landscaping lines East 68th Street.
