945 Fifth Avenue is a 19 story, 107 apartment post-war rental designed by Emery Roth & Sons and developed by the Rudin family in 1949. It occupies the former site of Temple Beth-El, an 1891 synagogue that was demolished in 1947.
The beige brick façade rises from a two story limestone base, with a central stack of recessed terraces and setbacks along the upper floors. At the roofline, the mechanical equipment and water tower are contained in a tiered octagonal enclosure punctuated by round openings.
