51 Walker Street going up
By Carter Horsley   |   From Archives Thursday, June 23, 2005
Construction is advancing at 51 Walker Street on a 9-story condominium loft apartment building that is a bit taller than its adjoining cast-iron neighbors but is designed to be quite compatible with them because of its large, inset multi-paned windows and nicely articularly facade rhythms.

Known as Walker 51, construction was up to the third floor the other day. The building is on an attractive block between Broadway and Church Street and one block south of Canal Street.

It will feature multi-zoned central air-conditioning, some balconies and terraces, high ceilings, Miele washer/dryers and high-speed Internet access. The building will also have a video security system, storage areas for each unit, a fitness center and a private key elevator.

It will have 15 apartments of which four are still available, ranging in price from $1,990,000 for a 1,550-sq.ft., two-bedroom, two-bath unit to $2,134,600 for a $1,642-sq.ft., two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath unit.
