Rupert Murdoch, the media mogul and publisher of The New York Post, recently acquired the penthouse apartment at 834 Fifth Avenue, one of the most prestigious and elegant apartment buildings in the city.

The triplex apartment is on the 14th, 15th and 16th floors of the limestone-clad building that was designed by Rosario Candela and built in 1930.

His architects, Ferguson & Shamanian, presented plans today to the Landmarks Preservation Commission to replace some windows on the 14th floor and made a "rooftop addition" on the 15th floor.

The commission approved the plans.

The building has a distinctive, asymmetrical roofline that will not be modified significantly by the approved changes.

The building is across Fifth Avenue from the entrance to the Central Park Zoo.

The its facade has some stylish Art-Deco-Style cartouches and an impressive stringcourse with lions' heads.

The building has many duplex apartments with grand living spaces facing Central Park.
