An article by Joey Arak today at ny.curbed.com indicated that a party tent with a Chinese dance troupe and a banner that read "groundbreaking" was visible in the empty lot at 19 Park Place in Lower Manhattan.
The article had the headline "Park Place's Most Shocking New Building Isn't a Mosque," a reference to the controversial planned community center and mosque at 45 Park Place.
The Department of Buildings indicates that a temporary tent permit was issued for the 19 Park Place site where it says a 21-story building with 29 apartments is planned by ABN Realty LLC of Valley Stream, New York whose president is Nancy Luk.
The article included renderings of the proposed building designed by Ismael Leyva. The sliver building has rounded balconies and a glass entrance with a gold-colored sculpture. It runs through the block to 16 Murray Street.
Mr. Leyva's buildings include the slim and tall apartment building at 785 Eighth Avenue, Plaza 57 on East 57th Street, and the Oro Condominium in Brooklyn.
19 Park Place is across the street from a large site owned by Silverstein Properties on which a mixed-use tower with condominiums and a Four Seasons Hotel designed by Robert A. M. Stern has been announced. The site is near the Woolworth Building.
