Last Fall, Tamarkin Co. and High Line Development Group kicked-off sales on their 19-unit condo, 550 West 29th Street. Now with construction nearly complete, the team has released model unit photos showing us how the “beautifully minimalist” concept inspired by “turn-of-the-century utilitarian and industrial architecture” holds up in reality.
The 12-floor building, designed and developed by Cary Tamarkin, is a follow-up to his 508 West 24th Street and 456 West 19th Street nearby. In line with its West Chelsea sisters, 550 dons an austere, elegantly-proportioned façade dressed in metal casement windows and hand-cast limestone Roman bricks.

Interiors are equally refined with an “uncompromising level of construction and craftsmanship.” Most homes are duplexes with voluminous living rooms, 20-foot ceiling heights, and expanses of multi-paned windows bestowing an abundance of natural light.

The custom-designed chef's kitchen has European oak cabinetry and Pietra Cardosa countertops complemented by a full suite of Wolf, Sub-Zero, and Miele appliances. Master suites have five-fixture marble baths and his-and-her walk-in closets. All homes have an in-unit washer/dryer and most have private terraces with enviable views of the High Line and Hudson River waterfront.

Overall, the boutique building has three- and four-bedroom residences priced from $3.75 million. Currently, three 3-bedrooms are on the market spanning 1,863-SF to 2,269-SF in size. They pencil out to an average of $2,226 a foot — more affordable than similar new construction condos in West Chelsea such as Soori High Line and Five One Five down the block.
Building amenities will include an attended lobby, a gym and sauna, a laundry room, private storage and a bike room. Its location is at the lightly-trafficked northwestern edge of West Chelsea’s gallery district. The towers of Hudson Yards loom to the north, Hudson River Park is one block west, and the High Line is within shouting distance. Hill West served as the architect of record for the project and CORE is handling sales and marketing.
