Grand Opening: Tour NYC's Nordstrom flagship in the base of 130-story-tall Central Park Tower

It used to be that New Yorkers would have to trek to Westchester or New Jersey to visit Nordstrom, but no more: The New York flagship opened in the base of Central Park Tower, across the street from The Men’s Store, to great excitement. Shoppers were lined up before 8:00 for a “Beauty Bash” with makeup, hair styling, music, food, and giveaways both inside and out before the grand opening at 10 a.m. The celebration continues into the weekend with a fall block party on Saturday, October 26.

Nordstrom department stores throughout the country are known for their exceptional service and style, and New York’s is no exception. The 320,000-square-foot space houses seven stories of carefully curated clothes, shoes, accessories, beauty, jewelry, and homewares. Throughout the store, six restaurants and bars offer casual snacks and sit-down meals alike. Services like styling, order pick-up, and alterations can be done both at the flagship and service hubs in Greenwich Village and on the Upper East Side.

Most New York department stores use their window displays to attract attention, but passers-by notice Nordstrom before they’re even on the same side of the street. A wave-form glass facade by James Carpenter Design Associates in partnership with Nordstrom makes a statement from the street and floods the store with natural light. Interiors feature 19’ ceilings, open floor plans, and custom lighting to make for an amazing shopping experience. Installations by local, national, and international artists alike make an already memorable visit even more so.

While the celebrations took place at the base, Central Park Tower soars 1,550 feet high behind it. Construction topped out last month, and completion does not look too far behind on the glittering glass facade designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Apartments start on the 32nd floor to make the most of spectacular city and Central Park views, and current availabilities include a two-bedroom for $6.7 million, a three-bedroom for $18 million, and a high-floor five-bedroom for $63.75 million.
