Yet another luxury property has arrived to Long Island City’s burgeoning rental market. Recently-completed SteelHaus at 41-32 27th Street opens the doors to 46 units that range from studios to two bedrooms, available from $2,400 to $5,200 per month. The 16-story property was developed by the Hakimian Organization, with ARC Design Studio as the architects and Queens-based Modern Spaces handling the marketing and leasing.

SteelHaus stands half a block north of Queens Plaza, where a cluster of 10- to 20-plus-story high-rises forms a transition zone between the bustle of the booming Court Square district to the south and the townhomes and tree-lined streets of Dutch Kills to the north. The irregular, trapezoidal lot proves advantageous to the design, since it faces the majority of units towards the quiet courtyard rather than the street. Here, broad windows overlook a cozy garden and open onto the skylines of Long Island City and Midtown beyond.

Dark red brick and black steel at the slender, street-facing facade emulate the neighborhood’s industrial history and contextually nod to the brick-faced neighbors, most notably the historic Brewster Building across the street, built in 1911 and currently home to the JetBlue headquarters.

Hardwood floors span across the residences. Lacquered navy blue cabinets spice up the kitchens and contrast with Caesarstone countertops and stainless steel appliances, which include washers and dryers. Glass-doored showers feature wood tile walls.

SteelHaus lets renters pump iron in the 900-square-foot gym, or stretch on the dedicated yoga space at the roof deck. The roof also sports a picnic area next to a top-floor lounge with a billiards table, kitchenette, and a screening area. In addition, the building is pet-friendly.

The quiet block contrasts with the bustling Queens Plaza to the south, where the Queensboro Plaza subway station rises above a greenway and a busy retail strip. Keep your bicycle in the dedicated bike room, take the adjacent bike lane across the nearby Queensboro Bridge to Midtown, and transform your commute into purpose-filled exercise.
