Mink Development Reveals Interior Renderings of Magnificent Vanderbilt Mansion Conversion

Mink Development and B+B Capital is moving ahead with their gut renovation of a former Vanderbilt mansion at 39 East 72nd Street. The landmarked Upper East Side abode was built in 1881 by architect B. Lynd and was once the home of fashion designer and heiress Gloria Vanderbilt. With CetraRuddy Architecture at the helm, the mansion will gain an additional floor, its stone Neo-Grecian-style exterior will be restored and its 18,000 square feet of interior space will be carved into three “ultra-luxurious triplexes.” The developers acquired the building in 2014 for $19 million and last year received a $30 million loan for the redevelopment according to Real Estate Weekly.

Asking prices for the homes will range from $17 million to $25 million, according to Mink Development. A batch of new renderings published on their page show rooms finished with crown molding, coffered ceilings, marble bathrooms and elegant vestibules. The 27-foot wide townhouse will be fronted by a large gated courtyard that will reportedly be the only one of its size in the city. The penthouse unit will have two outdoor terraces and the ground floor unit will open onto an idyllic side-yard. Plans also show the cellar will accommodate a recreational room. Listings have yet to officially hit the market and the images shown may not reflect final plans.
