According to The Center for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), New York has more than half the country's hotel towers standing more than 500 feet tall. The 23-deep list is topped by the 753' Courtyard & Residence Inn Manhattan/Central Park at 1717 Broadway. However, the tallest all-hotel skyscrapers in the world are in Dubai which has the six tallest hotel buildings, each standing more than 1,000 feet high.

Among New York's latest crop of hotel-spires are a 510' Virgin Hotel in NoMad which just topped out and a 505' Marriott-branded hotel to rise in Hudson Yards at 450 11th Avenue. Most recently out of the ground in Times Square is a 519', 660-key hotel development at 145 West 47th Street . Steered by Tribeach Holdings , the international firm picked up the site for $101.2 million in early 2016 according to The Real Deal. Berg + Moss Architects are the architects of record and project renderings on their website show a standard midblock slab design with a jaunty glass facade and a handful of setbacks along the way. The architects say the design will feature "a monumental limestone base respectful of its immediate context, topped by a multicolored glass tower that rises up to be visible from Times Square."

Initial permits called for a 27-floor hotel with 343 keys. Revised paperwork reveal the full scope is nearly double that size, featuring 48 floors with 660 rooms inside. There will be standard hotel amenities which include a ground-floor restaurant and a fifth-floor bar. The guestroom floors will span levels 6 to 47 and average 16 rooms per floor.
A recent visit to the construction site shows the concrete frame is about three floors up. The tower should top out by this fall and is on track for a 2020 delivery. New nearby competition includes the just-opened Times Square EDITION Hotel whose 452 guestrooms now start at $374/night. One block north, Extell is building a 35-story, 445-room Hard Rock Hotel at 159 West 48th Street and just to the west, the owners of The Palace Theater are expanding the former Doubletree Times Square Hotel from 395 rooms to 745.
