Over the past decade Williamsburg's Union Avenue has received more than its fair share of hideous rental buildings outfitted in flimsy 'modern' materials (looking at you 544 Union, 568 Union, and 250N10). Now, The Kraus Organization is bringing a new condo building to the stretch at 585 Union Avenue that will be add some interest to passersby and provide residents verdant views of McCarren Park.
Recently topped out at six floors, the two-lot wide project's distinguishing feature will be a street-facing staircase shielded by hexagonal panels. Midtown-based Mortar ARCH + DEV conceived the design and published the rendering above on their social media streams. The firm has shaped more than a dozen multi-family Brooklyn buildings over the years that include 245 Manhattan Avenue, 764 Metropolitan Avenue, and 139 Meserole Street.

Permits filed in September 2018 call for eight residences. All the apartments will have private outdoor space and a duplex maisonette will have private rear yard access. There will also be a duplex penthouse with its own private terrace. An approved offering plan lists a projected sellout of $17,256,000, meaning the eight units will average more than $2.1 million.
Shared perks will include private storage space, a single parking space, and of course, all the restaurants and nightlife options Williamsburg presents. The building is a short walk to McCarren Park and equidistant to the L train’s Bedford Avenue and Lorimer Street stations.
