Various NYC residential buildings with curvaceous facades: Lantern House, One Jackson Square, 111 Murray Street, 520 West 28th Street Various NYC residential buildings with curvaceous facades: Lantern House, One Jackson Square, 111 Murray Street, 520 West 28th Street
New Yorkers have long prized corner apartments for their extra light and expansive sightlines. With windows on two or more sides, a corner unit literally brings in sunlight from multiple directions and offers dual street views while sharing fewer walls with neighbors (and thus less noise). Additionally, corner layouts often allow open, column-free floor plans that feel more spacious, and create more unique vantage points for occupants to savor views while maximizing natural light throughout the space.

Due to their popularity, many architects are curving entire facades so that more units capture corner-like exposures. Instead of sharp edges, these towers use sweeping, full-height glass walls that wrap the building. The effect is that light pours in from a broader arc of sky, allowing residents to enjoy more open sightlines. According to marketing materials at the now-selling condo The Greenwich by Rafael Viñoly, its “seamless, curved, full-height, floor-to-ceiling curtain walls embrace light and air from every floor, with a glass facade and rounded corners that offer expansive panoramic views.”

Architects also use these sinuous facades to distinguish their buildings, especially in Manhattan, where the rigid street grid typically yields straight-edged structures. By softening those angles, developers create buildings that stand out on the crowded skyline while elevating the experience of the residents inside.

A growing list of such buildings includes Hendrix HouseRadiantOne Park Row, and The Greenwich, an 88-story tower that recently relaunched sales in the Financial District. The tower is defined not only by its soaring height but by rounded corners on all four sides, softening the building’s profile and allowing residents to take in sweeping views of the skyline and rivers. Current listings range from a high-floor studio at $1.1 million to a three-bedroom penthouse at $13.5 million.
Earlier this week it was reported that a towering new curved-corner development has received financing Long Island City. The 55-story skyscraper set to rise at 45-03 23rd Street (aka 24-19 Jackson Avenue) and will bring a whopping 636 new condominium residences to LIC's Court Square neighborhood. Developed by Charney Companies and Tavros in partnership with Incoco Capital, and designed by FXCollaborative, the tower will feature gently rounded corners and a full-height glass façade to maximize panoramic views across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the East River.

Beyond its notable architecture, the tower will house a Chelsea Piers Fitness center, a top-tier grocer, and an extensive amenities package. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2025 with completion expected in spring 2028.
As developers and architects continue to explore new forms, we take a look at New York's most impressive buildings with curved facades below.
